Researchers at UC San Diego, Johns Hopkins and UC Berkeley have used CRISPR-Cas9 to edit a single amino acid (L224→Q224) in Anopheles mosquitoes, blocking the passage of malaria parasites to salivary glands and halting transmission, a Nature study reports.
